Freddy enjoys return to Porsche Carrera Cup

Just one week after he concluded his inaugural season in endurance racing, Freddy Nordström has enjoyed a successful return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship.

Held at the infamous Silverstone circuit last weekend (15th-16th October) the season finale of the prestigious championship saw Freddy contest the Pro-AM 1 category. Armed with his GT Marques run Porsche machine Freddy set out a number of goals ahead of the weekend, which he was pleased to achieve.

“The Porsche Carrera Cup is a championship anyone should be proud to be a part of. As I haven’t done the full season this year I was obviously not expecting to be challenging for championship glory. However our goal was to get out on track and see where we are compared to everyone else,” said Freddy.

After an extremely close qualifying on Saturday, Freddy lined up on the grid yesterday lunch time (Sunday 16th October) ready for race one. Watched by not only the thousands of fans in attendance trackside, but also the thousands who tuned in to ITV4 to watch live, a good start propelled Freddy up the grid.

As he enjoyed a fierce in-class battle, fluid left on the track by one of the front runners caused a number of cars to inadvertently spin. Caught up in the melee and unable to do anything, Freddy was launched into a minor spin courtesy of the slippery track surface.

As he rejoined the track, Freddy noticed low oil pressure in his Porsche machine, and to refrain from damaging the car he opted for the sensible decision to return to the pits in the closing stages.

Race two was another exciting challenge for the youngster. After being spun around at turn two, Freddy set about chasing his rivals. Together with blistering lap times, he was able to close the gap to his main challengers, before the chequered flag ended his fun.

“I’ve had a fantastic weekend,” exclaimed Freddy. “It was great to get back on track in the Porsche, and I was able to enjoy some close battles with the other drivers.

“The rest of the Pro-AM 1 class had 18 races and testing behind them before this round, whereas I had done just two races. So to be able to hassle them throughout the race was an achievement.

“I would like to extend a special thank you to Paul Callow and Ryan Mone for their support of the team during the weekend and of course to Paul Mace, Team Owner of GT Marques,” Freddy added.

Freddy third as championship concludes

As the final race of the 2011 season came and went, racing ace Freddy Nordström is now reflecting on his inaugural season in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

Silverstone played host to the final adventure of the season, and after an eventful year, Freddy and team-mate Leyton Clarke were on the verge of providing their GT4 Class Lotus Sport UK team with championship honours. As they headed into the final round the pair were second in class, with an opportunity to steal the title; however as the season finale unfolded they were baulked by drama.

A change to the timetable for this one round saw the qualifying and two hour race both take place on Saturday (8th October). With a reshuffled schedule to accommodate new additions to the agenda Friday set out time for practice. However a shortened practice session allowed for less track time than normal.

Experience around the Silverstone Grand Prix layout came in abundance for Leyton, whilst Freddy found his feet around the 3.660 mile circuit in the Lotus Evora. After a combined 30 minute qualifying session, the pair had secured the fifth fastest time in class, as they awaited the race later that day.

As the final championship fight got underway, Freddy took hold of the opening stint of the race. A blast away from the line saw the youngster launch his way through the field, as he sailed passed his main title rival for a welcomed advantage.

As the initial hour neared an end Freddy slid into the pitlane to hand over to Leyton for the final hour, having exited from third place. As Leyton steered his way towards the chequered flag drama suddenly surrounded the twosome.

A fierce performance from the championship contending Lotus Evora saw Leyton retain Freddy’s earlier advantage. As he wrestled his way to second place he was soon called for a one second stop/go penalty as penance for a pitstop infringement.

On his way again Leyton would work his way back to third place as the two hours neared a conclusion. However, once again the Freddy/Leyton machine was not without drama, when their Lotus Evora ran dry of fuel just one and a half laps from the finish.

Despite their misfortune, Freddy and team-mate Leyton were able to salvage sixth place, having completed enough of the race to be classified. Their record of being the only driver pairing in the GT4 Class to have scored at every round remains intact. Although they missed out on the championship title, the Lotus duo equalised second place on points, before being classed as third.

Looking back on his inaugural season as an endurance racer, Freddy said: “It has certainly been a challenging season. We have been fairly consistent all year, however we have been haunted by bad luck on a number of occasions.

“We have almost tasted victory numerous times, but still it has been an experience. Leyton and I are third in the 2011 British GT GT4 Championship standings and that is a feat to be proud of,” he added.

With his main focus now concluded for the year, Freddy is currently set to return to Silverstone next weekend to contest the final round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship.

Challenging weekend sees title fight go down to final round

An eventful weekend at Donington Park in Leicestershire saw Freddy Nordström extend his 2011 Avon Tyres British GT title bid towards the final round of the year.

As the longest race of his career beckoned, Freddy and his Lotus Sport UK team were well prepared. The weekend of 24th-25th September was set to display the penultimate round of the 2011 championship, as Freddy and team-mate Leyton Clarke continued their strong scoring form.

As ever the weekend began with two one hour practice sessions on Saturday (24th September). After securing some track time around the Grand Prix layout, Freddy was eager for the impending qualifying session.

However, as the time for qualifying came drama once again reared its head in the Lotus Sport UK camp. Whilst Freddy was out on track a problem haltered his progress, however as one of the GT3 machines caused a session stoppage, the team were able to work their magic on the Lotus Evora. As the session restarted, Freddy and Leyton returned to the track to secure a fourth place start for the race.

Sunday morning saw Freddy and Leyton top the GT4 Class times during a 10 minute warm-up session, as they awaited the challenging three hour endurance. A mid-morning rain shower saw a wet start to the race, as drivers and teams prepared their machines for a wet track.

As the race got underway the rain had eased, which meant a drying track soon called for a change to slick tyres. Smooth running saw Freddy’s race develop in fine fashion, as him and team-mate Leyton worked their way up to third place. As the pair began to challenge for a definite podium position the closing phase came into sight.

As their final pitstop was completed without drama, Freddy took to the track for the final stint of the demanding adventure. However as he approached his fourth lap towards the chequered flag something snapped on the car, which forced him towards a swift exit from the race.

Despite being unable to take the chequered flag, Freddy and Leyton had completed enough of the race to still be classified in fifth place. The duo were able to continue their legacy as the only GT4 driver pairing to have scored at every round so far this season.

Glancing back towards Donington, Freddy said: “We knew a three hour race was going to be challenging. Not only was it the longest race of my career so far, but with the team being new to the championship this year it was the longest race for our Lotus Evora.

“I think we faired very well against some tough competition, and as we head towards the final meeting at Silverstone Leyton and I are still able to steal the GT4 Class title. It will of course be tough but we are ready for the opportunity,” he added.

The next and final race of the 2011 Avon Tyres British GT Championship takes place at Silverstone on the 8th October.

Second place and fastest lap for Freddy at Rockingham

As the weather tried its best to intervene at the Rockingham Motor Speedway last weekend (3rd-4th September), Freddy Nordström scored more points towards his Avon Tyres British GT Championship GT4 title goal.

A dry start to the weekend saw the team use Saturday’s practice sessions to iron out any issues. Having not driven the car since the last round at Spa Francorchamps in July, Freddy and the team were eager to return to their successful ways.

Armed with a strong contender, Freddy and his Lotus Sport UK team-mate Leyton Clarke embarked upon the qualifying session. At the wheel of their shared Lotus Evora, both drivers secured a third place start for each of the two races.

Heavy rainfall kick started proceedings on Sunday morning. With only a 10 minute warm-up session to embed the car in wet conditions, Freddy took to the track to sample a soggy Rockingham.

In control of the opening stint of race one, Freddy took to the driving seat as the field weaved their way towards the starting grid. As the rain eased the question of whether to switch to slick tyres arose. A quick observation of the weather called for slick tyres up and down the field, as race one got underway.

As the race unfolded the heavens opened once again, forcing Freddy to change to wet tyres. Now armed with some fresh rubber, he set about chasing down his rivals, before handing control over to Leyton.

After fighting through the treacherous conditions, Freddy and Leyton were again able to enhance their so far perfect scoring record, as they splashed their way to second place and the fastest lap of the race.

As race two approached the heavy rain seemed a thing of the past, as a dry track awaited more action.

Leyton took hold of the first stint this time around, however after losing ground out on track their Lotus Evora seemingly developed a problem. Despite their unknown issues, Leyton handed the car over to Freddy for the concluding phase of the race. Freddy managed to muscle his way back up to fourth place, where he remained until the chequered flag came into sight.

“It was an interesting weekend at Rockingham,” said Freddy. “It was good to get back in the Lotus Evora after almost two months away from the British GT Championship, but it was an eventful weekend.

“The rain on Sunday morning definitely made things difficult, and with the banked corners on the circuit it was certainly a challenge to negotiate. However we were rewarded with a second place finish and the fastest lap of the race. We’re now looking forward to the next round at Donington Park and the three hour race that awaits us there,” he added.

A commendable effort saw Freddy and Leyton collect more points towards their GT4 title bid. As the final two rounds draw nearer, the pair are holding station in second place, as they strive to catch the runaway leader.

Freddy’s next challenge is at Donington Park in Leicestershire over the 24th-25th September, where a three hour race will endeavour to test the field.

Promotional day for Freddy at Hethel

In the run down towards his return to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, Freddy recently enjoyed a day at Hethel, the Lotus test track, for promotional purposes.

Teamed with Leo and Greg Mansell, sons of the 1992 Formula One World Champion Nigel, Freddy enjoyed a stint behind the wheel of the Lotus Evora, as film and photography crews recorded the event.

Freddy battles his way into Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Regular Avon Tyres British GT racer Freddy Nordström made his debut in something new this weekend, as he switched his Lotus Evora for a Porsche Carrera Cup machine.

A summer break from his Lotus Sport UK commitments presented the youngster with the opportunity to contest the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship on the new Snetterton 300 circuit this weekend (6-7th August). Joining the GT Marques outfit for the weekend, Freddy battled through an eventful outing for what was his first racing experience in the impressive car.

Freddy sampled the car for the first time just one week ago, as the series headed to the Norfolk-based circuit for a pre-race test. After seeing his lap times progress throughout the experience there was a confident feeling throughout the team for race day.

Qualifying day saw the youngster end the session fifth in the Pro-AM 1 category, as he found his confidence within the car-track combination. With time to prepare for his very first race scenario in this prestigious category of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship, Freddy readied himself for Sunday’s two races.

Freddy’s first race came bright and early Sunday morning. A feisty tussle between him and four other cars quickly ensued. As the five cars toured the circuit bumper to bumper a fierce battle engulfed the Pro-AM 1 class, with second place the overall goal. As the venture unravelled Freddy’s lap times again decreased, as he raced towards a potential class podium.

Sadly a puncture haltered his progress whilst he was on the prowl, although he still secured the second fastest lap in Pro-AM 1. “I really enjoyed the first race,” said Freddy. “It was starting to come to me and we were gradually getting quicker. I was confident of making up ground, until a puncture left us at the back. The second fastest lap was still an achievement though.”

The second adventure featured much of the same action, with Freddy eager to enhance his experience. A safety car on the second tour reduced the amount of race time available, however it was still plenty of time for Freddy to engage in another evocative battle. With little more than millimetres between the troop of Pro-AM 1 machines it was again a raging battle for second place, which lasted the full race distance.

Before long the chequered flag signalled the end to his inaugural Porsche Carrera Cup GB experience, as he lay fifth in class. “It has been a great experience,” beamed Freddy. “This is the fastest car I have raced, and we just progressed session after session. The more time we spent in the car the more the lap times decreased. Sadly the lap times in the second race weren’t reflective of our earlier pace due to following other cars, but we’ve shown what the car is capable of. There is more to come from it.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Paul Mace and GT Marques for this experience. They prepared a very good car!”

Freddy returns to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in September, as the championship reassembles for round five at the Rockingham Motor Speedway. However, he is hopeful of returning to the final round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship at Silverstone in October.

Freddy joins Porsche Carrera Cup GB for Snetterton

Young racing driver Freddy Nordström is set to make his race debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship next weekend (6-7th August), following a successful test on the new Snetterton 300 circuit yesterday (Thursday 28th July).

Freddy’s main focus this season is the Avon Tyres British GT Championship with the Lotus Sport UK outfit. However with the series in the midst of a summer break, Freddy was able to take advantage of a chance to race the Porsche in the Pro-AM 1 category.

Freddy and the GT Marques team were pleased with the outcome after yesterday’s test session. Having never driven the brand new car before, Freddy was given three and a half hours of track time to gain some data and secure some lap times.

Despite his lack of familiarity with the car, Freddy was assisted by his knowledge of the new circuit, having raced his Lotus Evora there earlier this season. Regardless of this, the youngster took full advantage of the track time available, to become comfortable with the car by the end of the day.

With many of the top drivers from the series also present throughout the day, Freddy was able to gauge his lap times against them, to gain an insightful comparison. “It was a great day yesterday, everyone in the team was pleased with the outcome, which was the goal at the start of the day,” said Freddy.

“We spent as much of the time as we could out on track, changing the set-up and various things on the car as we progressed, but it became better and better as the day developed. It was extremely useful to have this time in the car before the race next weekend,” he continued.

With the race just one week away, Freddy is now in full preparation mode. This is currently a one-off venture for him in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship, with the possibility of the Silverstone round on the horizon.

“This is a good opportunity for me to be able to sample the car and also the series in a race situation. However I am still extremely committed to my British GT campaign, and look forward to being reunited with the Lotus Evora at Rockingham in September,” added Freddy.

Freddy battles illness and drama at Spa

The weekend of 8th-9th July saw the fourth round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship lead Freddy Nordström to Belgium to race on the historic Spa Francorchamps circuit.

A weekend troubled with illness and car issues lay ahead of Freddy, as he and his Lotus Sport UK team-mate Leyton Clarke attempted to enhance their championship charge. However, despite his woes, Freddy rose to the challenge of Spa.

The weekend began with two one hour practice sessions on Friday 8th July. However Freddy’s track time was haltered after just a couple of laps when a rear brake problem forced him to return to the pits. Just to enhance the issue, his brakes soon set alight as he made his way into the pitlane.

Sadly the issue remained with the car into the second session, meaning Freddy and team-mate Leyton were unable to secure sufficient track time. With this being the first time they had seen the Spa circuit from the confines of the Lotus Evora driving seat, qualifying was set to be interesting, especially with virtually no testing to support their efforts.

After furiously working to repair their wounded Lotus Evora, the team changed the master slave cylinder before qualifying. Now armed with a revamped machine, Freddy jumped behind the wheel for the first qualifying session. After 15 minutes Freddy finished the session third quickest in the GT4 Class. Despite the recent repair work he struggled through, with the brakes teaming up with the steering to form new anguish.

During Friday Freddy had battled illness, with a headache and nausea plaguing the youngster all day. As Saturday morning arrived, Freddy’s illness failed to subside, however he prepared himself for the double race header.

Race one soon came with Freddy lining up on the grid for the start. A larger than normal field saw the European GT4 Championship and Aston Martin Challenge join the usual British GT suspects. As the race began Freddy launched an immediate challenge, when he instantly passed six cars.

From here Freddy’s race was a solemn affair, despite working his way up to second place in the GT4 Class by the time of his pitstop. As Leyton took over in the driving seat disaster struck when a collision with an Aston Martin caused damage to their Lotus Evora. Despite this Leyton recovered the car to third place and another podium finish.

Afterwards it was discovered that the damage from race one was more extensive than first thought, giving the mechanics a race against time to work their magic before race two. After more hard work the car was restored but time had virtually evaporated, meaning the team was unable to check vital points such as alignment for instance.

It was Leyton’s turn to start race two, with everyone heading in blind. A struggle led him towards the pitstop, when Freddy took over for the final stint. After working his way through the pack, a hit from a rival on the final tour saw Freddy hold on to take fifth place.

After battling illness and struggling through car issues, Freddy said: “Our sole aim for the weekend was to beat our main rival, the KTM X-Bow, which we did in race one. Sadly race two was more of a struggle for us, which meant we missed out on more points. But we have to take the positives from the weekend, and considering what we were faced with a podium in race one was a good result.

“We’ve got a bit of a break now until the next round, so we’ll be using this time valuably to ensure we can fight back next time out at Rockingham.”

Freddy’s next race is at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northampton, over the weekend of 3rd-4th September.

Freddy strengthens championship with another podium

On a weekend controlled by the weather, Freddy Nordström once again made his presence known in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship with another podium finish.

A tense start to the weekend saw Freddy and team-mate Leyton Clarke take to the Brands Hatch track after a five week break. As the qualifying session arrived on Saturday the pace of their Lotus Sport UK run Lotus Evora was threatened, when a fuel-to-car connection problem arose.

After overcoming the issues as much as possible, Freddy and Leyton qualified seventh in the GT4 Class. A repair of the car during Saturday evening paved the way for a potentially smooth ride towards the two hour race on Sunday, however a challenge lay in front of them.

Sunday morning saw Freddy and Leyton take to the track for the brief morning warm-up session. As the day progressed towards the race the weather favoured the British GT field, with a dry track ready for two hours of excitement. For the first time this season it was Freddy who started the race, as the 31 car field thundered around the Grand Prix layout for the rolling start.

A large grid quickly spread out over the formation lap, which made it difficult for Freddy to advance on his grid position. However, as he reached the 10 lap mark his Lotus Evora soon came to life, as he chased down his rivals, also setting the fastest lap of the Lotus Sport UK team in the process.

As Freddy carved his way through the opening hour of the race the weather intervened once again, as the rain started to fall. After proving the wet pace of the Lotus Evora last time out at Snetterton, Freddy’s speed in the wet once again became apparent, as he fought through to second place.

Before long it was time for Freddy to hand the car over to Leyton. As their rivals faltered on a wet track, Freddy and Leyton could almost taste victory. As the end of the race approached the rain stopped and the track began to dry. Despite holding a 30 second lead, the dry track appeared to favour their nearest rivals, with Leyton unable to hold off the opposition.

After temporarily dropping to third place, a collision between the top two enabled Leyton to slip through into the lead on the final tour, before being forced back to second in the closing stages.

Looking back over the weekend Freddy said: “I’m pleased with the outcome from Brands Hatch. We struggled at the beginning of the weekend, so to leave Sunday evening with another second place finish is an achievement for us.

“We again demonstrated our genuine pace this weekend during the race, and also showed that we are strong in the wet. Hopefully we can get onto the top step very soon, it can’t be far away now,” he continued.

Freddy now has a three week break until the next round, when he will make the trip to Belgium to race on the historic Spa Francorchamps circuit over the weekend of 8-9th July.

Freddy on podium again after Snetterton

As another race weekend came and went, Freddy Nordström again tasted the celebratory champagne with another podium place finish. Snetterton, Norfolk, was the scene of the action, with a thrilling two hour endurance race set to entertain the crowds.

Again the weekend began with two separate one hour practice sessions on Saturday morning. After the opening 60 minutes of track time, Freddy and team-mate Leyton Clarke fired their Lotus Evora to second in the G4 Class.

The weather attempted to thwart Freddy’s plans for success in the second practice session, as a mixture of rain and hail disrupted proceedings, making the track extremely slippery. Despite their lack of running in the wet the Lotus machine held its own, finishing the session at the top of the class.

With two hours of track time behind them, the Lotus Sport UK duo headed back out on track for qualifying. 13 laps later the chequered flag signalled the end of the qualifying outing, with Freddy and Leyton securing the third fastest time in class.

Unlike the opening round at Oulton Park, Snetterton featured a single two hour race, giving Freddy his first ultimate taste of endurance racing.

Sunday arrived and brought race day with it. The morning warm-up session saw the youngster iron out some issues in the car, as the team prepared themselves for the upcoming race.

Leyton took control of the opening stint, with Freddy taking the concluding hour of the race. An eventful outing saw many of the other runners fall by the wayside, as chaos struck teams and drivers up and down the field.

The mandatory driver change pit stop soon arrived to mark the half-way point, as Leyton handed control over to Freddy.

Freddy was able to keep himself out of trouble, and as one of their main rivals suffered a penalty for missing the obligatory pit stop window, his control on the G4 Class took hold.

With just eight laps remaining Freddy had a cushion of 25 seconds to the second placed car, and was looking strong for a first victory for Lotus Sport UK. However, with just two laps to go his pursuer soon caught up and managed to steal honours.

Freddy and Leyton once again finished in a very strong second place, returning to the podium for another taste of champagne and celebration. Commenting on his Snetterton success, Freddy said: “It was an exciting race and it’s been a good weekend all around. We had our first wet running with the car on Saturday and we were second overall at one point. It’s good to know how strong we are in the wet as well as in the dry.

“Although this was the longest race I’ve done, with a continuous hour behind the wheel, it seemed easier than driving just half an hour. I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the longer races later in the year,” he continued.

Freddy will next be racing at Brands Hatch, Kent over the weekend of 18-19th June. The track is very familiar to him and he is looking forward to the next challenge.

Freddy samples success in First British GT race

The Easter weekend saw young racer Freddy Nordström sample his first taste of endurance motor racing. Having recently signed a deal to contest the Avon Tyres British GT Championship this season, he was finally able to see what it was all about.Joining forces with the prestigious Lotus Sport UK team is a bonus for Freddy; however having had no competitive track time in the new Lotus Evora, the first round at Oulton Park last weekend was always going to be a challenge.

Saturday morning kicked things off, with a one hour practice session giving Freddy his first taste of Oulton Park behind the wheel of the new GT4 Contender. Freddy and team-mate Leyton Clarke aimed to share the driving duties throughout the session, however after the car suffered problems earlier on, Freddy was only able to manage one lap.

Determined not to be fazed, the team looked on to the next practice session, which would give them a further hour of track time. With the all important qualifying outing looming, time behind the wheel was becoming all the more important.

Again hampered by recurring issues, the youngster was presented with limited time on circuit. Despite this, Saturday afternoon paved the way for qualifying. With two sessions lasting 15 minutes each the pressure was on.

As ever, Freddy kept a cool head to deliver when it really mattered. After holding the quickest time for much of the session he eventually secured third spot on the grid for the first of two races.

Easter Monday was race day, and in keeping with the endurance race format, Freddy was the starting driver for race one. As the 26 car field thundered into turn one Freddy easily held onto his third place in class. After battling with the sister Lotus Sport UK Lotus Evora, it was soon time to head to the pits, where he handed control over to team-mate Leyton.

From here tough competition rivalled their earlier progress, with the chequered flag falling on the duo in fifth place.

Race two was definitely a thrilling experience, although as the chequered flag fell confusion reigned throughout the Lotus Sport UK pit.

This time around the green light was taken by Leyton, with Freddy ensuring the car crossed the finish line. As the 60 minute thriller progressed to closing Freddy stormed through the field, picking off his rivals one by one.

On a charge, he eventually inherited the lead of the G4 Class with just 11 minutes remaining. However, despite his obvious pace, an issue with the results just moments after the chequered flag meant Freddy and Leyton were awarded second place instead.

Still pleased to have achieved second place on there first outing, Freddy said: “It’s been a tough weekend, learning a new car and getting to know a new team, but we still managed to come through it all.

“It was great to get second place in race two, even though we tasted victory for a short while. We have shown we are here to mean business and that we are capable of success. I’m looking forward to the next round now at Snetterton,” he added.

Freddy’s next British GT adventure will take place over the weekend of 14-15th May, at the Norfolk-based Snetterton circuit. With Lotus hailing from Norfolk themselves, everyone at Lotus Sport UK are eager to triumph on home soil.

Freddy gets behind the wheel of Lotus Evora GT4

After recently signing to race with Lotus Sport UK as part of their British GT4 programme, Freddy finally got his hands on the Lotus Evora race car yesterday. A testing programme at the official Lotus test track, Hethel in Norfolk allowed Freddy to sample what he will be racing at Oulton Park in just over one weeks time.

The day proved to be a success, with Freddy getting some much anticipated time behind the wheel of his new race car. "It was great to finally drive the Lotus Evora," said Freddy. "The car is fantastic to drive and I just can't wait to get back in the driving seat at Oulton Park next weekend for the first round," he continued.

Still in its interim livery the Lotus Evora is due to be wrapped next week in its final livery, ahead of the British GT season opener.

Next weekend will start with pre-race testing on the Friday (22nd April), with qualifying on Saturday and two one hour races on Easter Monday (25th April).

Freddy joins Lotus Sport UK for British GT4 assault

Anglo-Swedish racing driver Freddy Nordstrom is set to make his return to racing in the UK in 2011, as he prepares to do battle with the Avon Tyres British GT field.

After months of speculation as to what the youngster will be driving this coming season, Freddy will join forces with the ever expanding Lotus Sport UK brand to contest the GT4 Class in their new Lotus Evora car.

The 22-year old has recently tested a variety of machinery, including a British Formula Ford Van Diemen, a Mosler, courtesy of Martin Short, and a Porsche Carrera Cup GB car; however his 2011 plans have settled on Britain’s premier endurance racing series.

Freddy has spent much of his recent years behind the wheel of various SEAT models. Following the dismissal of the SEAT Cupra Cup from UK motorsport, Freddy made his way to Spain, where he spent two years contesting the Spanish SEAT Leon Supercopa series. Racing against the Supercopa field enabled Freddy to enhance his race craft, with grids of no less than 35 cars at every meeting.

Since breaking from the UK branch of motorsport, the Surrey-based racer has been itching to make his return. Now armed with a British GT machine he is able to do so, and with a household name like Lotus steering his GT4 championship challenge forward, the youngster is looking forward to a new start in 2011.

Commenting on the announcement Freddy said: “I’m thrilled to be racing in the British GT Championship this year. It’s a series I’ve always admired, and with the exciting field that’s already been announced it’s obviously a great year to join.

“Being able to join the Lotus Sport team is an honour for me. They hold so much history and prestige in the sport and it’s great to be able to work with them in their new era,” he continued.

Freddy will be sharing the driving seat of the Lotus Evora with Leyton Clark.

Porsche Carrera Cup Test

Having recently tested a Mosler, Freddy's track experience is gradually developing more and more. Tuesday 22nd March saw the Porsche Carrera Cup GB fraternity head to Snetterton for the pre-season media/test day, which Freddy was a part of.

Still looking at various options for the 2011 season, the youngtser was able to test the Parr Motorsport Pro-AM 1 Porsche Carrera Cup car, which proved to be a successful outing.

Freddy spent the first hour of the test breaking in the new Porsche machine, and also finding his feet on the new Snetterton layout in an unfamiliar car. Sharing the tarmac with other drivers who have raced in the championship for a number of seasons gave Freddy some tough competition, however he was soon showing his pace as the day progressed. The 22 year old finished the day with the fourth fastest time in the Pro-AM 1 class.

Looking back over the experience Freddy said: "It was a good day out in the Porsche, I was pleased with the times by the end of the day and it was a good opportunity to get behind the wheel of it.

"I started the day on the back foot a bit compared to everyone else, but once we got the car broken we were able to secure some good track time."

Commenting on the new Snetterton track layout Freddy added: "The layout is certainly different, but it was a good experience to be able to sample it before the start of the season."

Driver Coaching

Freddy spent the day at Bruntingthorpe recently, with his driver coach Rob Wilson. It was another useful day for Freddy, as he expands on his track knowledge and experience. "I would like to thank Rob for his continued help over the last eight years, it's been a great experience working with him," said Freddy.

12 March 2011

Freddy tests the Mosler

With the start of the season in sight it's the time of year when racing drivers get a bit twitchy, eager to get back behind the wheel. For Freddy this feeling was not an unusual one. But on Friday 11th March 2011, he was able to feed his need for speed, when he was given the opportunity to test the impressive Mosler car, courtesy of sportscar legend Martin Short.

Commenting on the test, Freddy said: "I want to say a massive thank you to Martin for the opportunity to test the Mosler. It really is an amazing car, and to be able to drive it around Silverstone was a great honour. I've definitely got a taste for it now."

It's all been about change recently for Freddy, with an enhanced helmet design for 2011 as well. Everyone at Freddy Nordstrom Racing is working extremely hard to ensure the youngster is on the grid for the first green lights of the season. Which grid he will be sat on remains to be seen, but he is sure to be hitting the tarmac soon. As ever we will keep you updated on all of the progress.

Formula Ford Test

With the 2011 season still a working progress for Freddy, he was able to enjoy some track time at Silverstone last Friday (11th February). A general test day set the scene as Freddy got behind the wheel of the Advent Motorsport Formula Ford for only his second single seater experience.

Commenting on the day Freddy said: "I really enjoyed it, but the Formula Ford is so different to anything I've driven before. The track conditions made things slightly interesting, a rain shower at midday meant the afternoon sessions were rather slippery, but I enjoyed it. It was a good opportunity."

More news on Freddy's 2011 plans will be announced as soon as possible. Meetings are ongoing and we will let you all know once plans are finalised.

Freddy relishes challenge in season finale

As the final round of the 2010 Spanish SEAT Supercopa series rolled into action in Barcelona, Freddy Nordström battled his way to the Circuit de Catalunya last weekend (30th-31st October), for a Halloween weekend full of surprises.

Having been hampered all year with a lack of track knowledge of each circuit, when compared to that of his rivals, qualifying has proved difficult for the youngster. Despite many of his challengers undertaking a number of test days leading up to the event, Freddy relished the challenge. However, with that in mind a sterling performance left him with the 19th quickest time, out of a total of 35 cars.

As the field made their way to the grid for the opening race, tensions ran high as the championship hung in the balance. With the sound of engines signalling the start, Freddy got the jump on his rivals, launching away at the start, catching many of them unawares.

By just the second lap, the speed and talent from Freddy we’ve come to appreciate through the year showed itself once again, with the 21-year old battling his way through to 14th place. Shortly afterwards Freddy was given more of a trick than a treat, when a knock on his wheel caused steering problems for the remainder of the outing.

Unable to fend off those breathing down his neck with a car that was difficult to steer, Freddy only lost one place, crossing the line a respectable 15th place.

With the second race getting underway almost immediately, Freddy’s Advent Motorsport team were unable to tend to his steering issue with the cars entering parc ferme conditions straight away, meaning another outing was due to be a struggle for him.

After staring 15th, he once again rocketed away as the five red lights went out, leaving the young racer 12th by the end of the opening lap. With his positions fluctuating over the subsequent laps, by the fifth tour Freddy settled into a strong 12th place.

Drama struck on the final lap, when Freddy’s already damaged steering snapped, diverting him off the track. In order to avoid hitting the pit wall, Freddy quickly prevented further impeding damage, catching a rival in the process.

As Sunday arrived so did a mass downpour, with rain causing confusion up and down the pitlane all morning. With everyone opting for wet tyres and a wet set-up, it seemed as though a wet race had been declared, until a break in the clouds had other ideas.

Whilst everyone eagerly waited on the starting grid for the final race of the season, the sun shone down, illuminating the tension. Determined to continue his good form to the very end of the season, Freddy fired away from the grid reaching sixth place by the first corner.

However, there was still one more trick in store for the youngster, when one of the championship challengers sent Freddy off of the track, causing him to lose a third of a lap. Using his talent to the best of his ability, Freddy fought his way back through the field, battling to a strong 15th place out of 35 cars.

Looking back over the season finale, Freddy said: “It’s been a challenging weekend, but after the season we’ve had I’m used to it by now. I’ve enjoyed this last round, I was pushing really hard in all three races, but especially the last race, and to climb back to 15th after losing so much time was very pleasing for us all.

“This year has been very trying at times, but luckily things have become stronger as the year has progressed. We’ve enjoyed the last few races, it was great to get some good results after a difficult start to the year, but now we’re focused on next season, so watch this space,” he added.

Top 10 not a problem for Freddy

With the penultimate round of the Spanish SEAT Leon Supercopa now done and dusted, a strong result has given Freddy Nordstrom the confidence to play his part in the finale.

Arriving at the infamous Jerez circuit last weekend (16-17th October) to a sweltering 25-30˚C heat, a challenge lay ahead of the youngster, as he strived to continue his good form for the penultimate three races.

The weekend started with some initial track time, to ensure everyone got a feel for the layout. Despite visiting the circuit last year for the first time, it is still a relatively new venue for the 21-year old, as he recorded a number of significant laps.

As the SEAT Leon Supercopa fraternity embarked on the first day of competition last Saturday, qualifying kicked off proceedings in fine style. After making a few minor changes to the car in terms of set-up prior to the session, Freddy took to the track, however he initially struggled, qualifying 19th, albeit out of 27 cars. A few more changes to the set-up of his distinctive blue SEAT left him ready and raring to go, with the first race shortly afterwards.

Feeling much more comfortable with the car, Freddy lined up on the grid for the opening race in 19th position. In familiar style his true pace saw him launch up to 10th place by the end of just lap two, as he chased down a top 10 finish. Lap five saw Freddy leap into ninth place, which he held until the chequered flag.

Starting ninth for the second outing, Freddy sat on the grid eager to secure another tantalising finish. Once again by the second lap he had made up ground on his starting position, jumping up to eighth almost immediately. However, by lap five a drive-through penalty for exceeding track limits came his way, dropping him down the order to 14th.

With the final race taking place on Sunday, Freddy was given more opportunities to chase another top 10 finish. After starting 14th, he soon echoed his earlier performance by muscling through the pack; by just lap two he was lying 10th. A number of laps down the road Freddy managed to work his way passed into ninth, where he stayed until he was met by the chequered flag.

Leaving Jerez with two top ten finishes left Freddy feeling very positive, as he prepared himself for the season finale. “I’m pleased with the weekend, despite getting the penalty in race two,” said Freddy. “I worked so hard in the second race, I was keen to finish as high as possible, of course, but a sixth place finish would have given me pole position for the final race, so of course I was chasing it. It was a very difficult race, both mentally and physically, with the added heat as well.

“We had two top 10 finishes, almost three, so I’m naturally very pleased with the weekend as a whole. We’ve taken a big step forward in the last couple of months and even the last few races, so it’s something the whole team can be proud of,” he continued.

The season finale takes place at the Circuit de Catalunya, in Montmelo, Barcelona, over the weekend of 30th-31st October. After gradually rising up the order in the last few outings Freddy will undoubtedly be eager to secure an even stronger finish next time out.

Triple success for Freddy at Navarra

After a summer break from racing, Freddy Nordström got back behind the wheel of his SEAT Leon Supercopa last weekend (25-26th September), as the series enjoyed its inaugural event at the new Navarra circuit, Spain.

A successful outing at Brands Hatch last time out left Freddy with the confidence to succeed at Navarra, as he stormed his way to a trio of strong results.

The weekend began with pre-event practice during Wednesday, and despite gaining some early track knowledge a temperature issue haltered Freddy’s pace. The nature of the circuit also played its part on the brakes, with a mixture of high and low speed corners proving very demanding.

As qualifying arrived, Freddy’s SEAT was cool and ready to run, just like its driver. As the session progressed another issue arose, with a rear brake locking problem causing the trouble this time. Regardless of this, he still qualified 17th for the first race, beating a number of drivers on the 35 car strong grid.

As a rolling start set the opening race in motion, Freddy enjoyed a good getaway to launch him up the field. However, on the second lap his progress was hampered when a competitor who he was running side by side with along a lengthy straight, turned in on him, damaging his front right wheel. With battle scares to accompany the fight, Freddy still managed a 14th place finish.

Unfortunately for Freddy, damage received in the inaugural chase made his second outing more of a challenge. However, despite a broken lower wishbone he still fended off 22 cars to finish a respectable 13th.

Armed with a new wishbone, Freddy was ready for the third and final attempt, as he strived to continue moving up the order. A standing start this time out saw the 21 year old muscle his way through to eighth place as the initial laps developed.

Shortly afterwards his position came under threat when a competitor pulled to one side on the pit straight, as fire bellowed from his car. Yellow flags were thrown out to warn others of the danger, and adhering to the rules, Freddy backed off. However, a rival was not so quick to follow the correct procedure, over-taking Freddy in the danger zone.

Despite being denied a seventh place finish, Freddy still swept passed the chequered flag a solid eighth, to complete a superior top 10 finish.

Looking back over his successful weekend, Freddy said: “Despite the difficulties at the beginning of the weekend it went well at Navarra. It’s a great circuit, very challenging but I enjoyed it.

“It’s a shame about what happened in the final race, it was frustrating obviously, however an eighth place finish is still a result to be proud of. We’ve made a decent step forward in the second half of the season, so let’s hope it continues into the final two rounds,” he continued.

Freddy’s next round is at the familiar Jerez circuit, which he is very much looking forward to: “I’m feeling positive for Jerez, I like the circuit and I’m looking forward to going back there,” said Freddy.

The penultimate round at Jerez will take place over the weekend of 16-17th October.

Battle of the Brands ends in chaos

A welcome return to racing in the UK for Freddy Nordström was disrupted at Brands Hatch last weekend, when drama struck in both races.

After making the switch to the SEAT Eurocup Championship for the UK round last weekend (16-18th July), Freddy was keen to demonstrate his skills on a circuit he knows well. Arriving at the circuit Thursday evening to find a revamped SEAT Leon awaiting him kicked started the weekend how he wanted to, whilst his faith in the car was restored during the first on track action on Friday.

Freddy initially set the second fastest time of the practice session, before an incident and yellow flags brought about some confusion. With the session drawing to a close, there was no time to go back out to secure his time, leaving him in a respectable fourth.

Freddy’s early pace soon set the precedent for the weekend, and by the time qualifying arrived his confidence was echoed through his lap times. By the end of the session the SEAT specialist had secured a third place start for the opening race. “It was great to be back at the sharp end of the field,” said Freddy. “The car feels great, it’s the best start to a weekend we’ve had all year,” he added.

As the first race got underway Freddy held station in third place. As the race ticked towards half distance, Freddy was in a fierce battle with SEAT Eurocup front runner Eoin Murray, with the youngster forced to defend heavily.

Determined not to hand over his podium paying spot, Freddy battled hard to keep his position, until he was forced wide and into a spin. Before Freddy had time to compose himself to resume his race, he was hit by an unsuspecting Gabor Weber, another Eurocup regular. After crawling back to the pits with a tyre puncture looming and bodywork damage, Freddy was forced to retire. Despite his bad luck, he demonstrated yet again that he has the pace, matching the times of eventual winner Dan Welch.

Due to his non-finish in race one, Freddy was obligated to display another of his storming drives through the field after starting from 20th on the grid for race two. After making up a few places in the first two laps, his pace was haltered with the release of the safety car to recover an incident.

As the race got underway again Freddy had progressed from 20th to 11th, however a terrifying incident just one lap later, which saw the SEAT of Francisco Carvalho launch into the air and over the barrier brought out the red flag.

Due to the severity of the incident, and time constraints, the race was deemed to be over, despite only completing three actual racing laps.
In what became a somewhat strange weekend, Freddy showed his pace is just as strong as ever, and his optimism shone through in his actions. “It started off as such a good weekend. The car felt fantastic, the best it’s felt all season, and my pace was there as ever. It was just a shame both races ended as they did,” said Freddy.

“With regards Francisco’s accident, I came around the corner to see his car landing on its nose, which wasn’t a nice sight at all. It was a terrible accident and I’m just glad he’s ok.

“We’ve got a bit of a break now until the next race, and it’s a brand new track so everyone will be in the same position with their lack of knowledge about it. Fingers crossed the car stays like it is for the rest of the season, as it was great to drive at Brands Hatch,” he continued.

With the searing summer heat in Spain there are no races during August. Freddy will be back out on track with the SEAT Supercopa assemblage at the new Navarra circuit, the weekend of 25/26th September.

Freddy comes back to Brands

SEAT motor racing ace, Freddy Nordström, will return to racing in the UK this coming weekend (16-18th July), as he temporarily switches to the SEAT Eurocup Championship.

With three rounds of the 2010 Spanish SEAT Supercopa already done and dusted, Freddy has decided to echo his 2009 exploits by making a one-race swap to the British round of the Eurocup series. With a return to Brands Hatch Freddy is set to demonstrate his skills in front of a top crowd.

Regardless of contesting the Spanish series for the last two seasons, Freddy has made a few appearances at the infamous Kent-based circuit in recent months. July 2009 saw the Anglo-Swedish youngster contest the Eurocup series for the first time, while earlier this year he enjoyed a pre-season test with his new SEAT Leon. With a great deal of knowledge about Brands Hatch, he is sure to impress on his brief return to his local circuit.

After racing at Portimao, in the Algarve last weekend, Freddy’s uniquely coloured SEAT has since received some improvements, which is expected to relieve his anguish he’s suffered so far.

“I like Brands Hatch, it’s a great circuit with so much history, so I always look forward to racing there,” said Freddy. “It will be nice to return to a circuit that’s so familiar to me as well. We want to move on from the issues we’ve had so far this season, and keep looking forward. Fingers crossed Brands will be the weekend we can do this,” he added.

Portimao saw Freddy racing in front of the top teams and drivers in the touring car world, with the Supercopa series providing supporting action to the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). Brands Hatch will be another opportunity for the 21 year old to show the WTCC assemblage what he can do behind the wheel, with the Eurocup sharing the weekend with the prestigious series.

“Being able to support a series like the World Touring Car Championship is a fantastic opportunity for me and the team, and to be able to do it twice is even better. Some of the best drivers in the sport combined with a legendary circuit will make for a top weekend. It can’t come soon enough for me,” continued Freddy.

Freddy will be in action over the course of the three days next weekend, with practice, qualifying and two races being spread over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

7 July 2010

Third time lucky for Freddy

Another weekend in Spain saw Freddy’s 2010 SEAT Supercopa assault take shape, as his campaign finally got started in the right way at Portimao last weekend (3/4th July).

After two rounds of bad luck Freddy at last got to enjoy three race finishes, having completed a trio of outings at the Algarve-based circuit.

Friday saw the thirty-two car grid enjoy two free practice sessions, followed by qualifying. After suffering problems at Valencia and Jarama, Freddy was out to prove he meant business at Portimao; despite still experiencing a car glitch the young racer set the 14th fastest time in qualifying.

Ready for the first race, the grid took form. In true Freddy style, the first lap saw the Advent Motorsport ace rocket up to 12th place, making up a number of places from the off. By lap six the drama found him once more, when he was hit by another driver, causing damage to his SEAT Leon. Regardless of the damage, Freddy fought through to finish in 17th place.

With race two taking place immediately afterwards, Freddy lined up on the grid for the second time, this time starting 17th. Doing his best to drive through his apparent car problems, the youngster did his upmost to fight off his rivals, despite his SEAT being evidently low on pace when compared to others. After fighting as hard as he could he eventually took the chequered flag for the second time of the day, this time in 18th place.

The third and final race saw Freddy start from 18th on the grid, which he soon transformed as he again flew through the pack. His talent shone through once more, as he put to bed his car’s woes to finish a remarkable 14th.

After careful attention to his SEAT Leon it was deemed that the boost pressure was significantly lower than that of other cars, meaning he was a good deal lower on power than others. Considering his disadvantage it was another sterling performance from him, showing he refuses to be overcome by issues.

“It was good to start and finish all three races, but it was still frustrating to have yet more problems,” said Freddy. “The performance just wasn’t where I’d hoped it would be with the lack of pace, but we did what we could to work around it,” he added.

Freddy is now looking forward to a prominent meeting in just two weeks time, as he embarks on a slightly different journey. Contesting the British round of the SEAT Eurocup championship, he will return to the familiar Brands Hatch circuit, again supporting the prestigious World Touring Car Championship and Formula 2 series. “I can’t wait for Brands Hatch, it’s going to be a very exciting weekend for us,” he said. “Brands is a fantastic circuit and I’m looking forward to racing at one of the most renowned circuits in motor racing,” he added.

7 June 2010

More pain in Spain for Freddy

The weekend of 5/6th June saw Freddy Nordstrom make his return to the Jarama circuit, near Madrid, for round two of the Spanish SEAT Supercopa Championship. After difficulties at the first round in Valencia haltered his progress, Freddy was eager to kick off his season properly at Jarama.

With tough competition awaiting the 21 year old, Saturday's qualifying session saw just 1.4 seconds separating the top 20 drivers, with Freddy starting in 20th place after being slightly hampered on pace during the session.

Again proving what he is capable of behind the wheel, just one and a half laps into the first race Freddy already rocketed up to 14th place, progressing a remarkable six places in no time at all. Unfortunately, as in Valencia, Freddy's pace was soon short-lived as a lack of power meant he was unable to carry on.

As the grid lined up for the second race Freddy's weekend became that bit worse, when officials wouldn't allow him to leave the pitlane due to his lack of track time earlier in the day. Being absent from race two, after an already frustrating time, left the Advent Motorsport expert raring to go in the third race.

After the fitting of yet another new engine following Saturday's outing, Freddy was able to take to the grid for the final race of the weekend, however was forced to line up at the very back in 31st position. Determined not to let the disadvantage of starting from the back hinder his performance, Freddy again launched away at the start, making up another six places before clearing the pit straight.

As he approached the first corner, already up into 24th place, a knock at the side of his SEAT forced him off of the track. Once again his race was soon brought to an abrupt end before it had barely begun.

Looking back over another challenging weekend, Freddy said: "It's frustrating to have another bad weekend; I know we've got the pace to be running at the sharp end of the field, we've proved that in the short amount of track time we've had. With three new engines and only two rounds completed it's difficult for us all, but we've just got to keep looking forward.

"I'm staying positive and looking ahead to the next round at Portimao, where fingers crossed we'll finally have some good luck," he added.

The third round of Freddy's 2010 season is at the impressive Portimao circuit in Portugal, the weekend of 3.4th July. This event is an important meeting on the calendar, with the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and Formula 2 series also providing the entertainment.

Freddy will have a busy time in July, with an appearance in the Eurocup race at Brands Hatch the weekend of 16-18th July. After providing supporting action to the prestigious WTCC at the renowned venue in July 2009, the series will again be in attendance this year, with Freddy aiming to take his spot on the grid.

More information about Freddy's Eurocup exploits will be announced in due course.

26 April 2010

Freddy flies in Valencia but hampered by drama

The weekend of 16-18th April saw Freddy make the trip to Valencia for round one of the Spanish SEAT Supercopa Championship. Having enjoyed a successful pre-season test at Brands Hatch just one week before, Freddy was eager to get back behind the wheel

Arriving at the circuit praying for a wet weekend the Advent Motorsport pilot partially got his wish, with the qualifying session and race three both being wet.

After suffering problems in the Friday test sessions and Saturday qualifying at the Spanish circuit, Freddy was optimistic for the first race, despite starting from the back of the pack. Regardless of having a brand new engine added to his SEAT Leon after qualifying, Freddy rocketed off the line as the lights went out in race one. Two storming laps saw the youngster launch from a 30th place grid start up to a strong 14th by lap two. Despite Freddy's obvious speed, mechanical gremlins struck, meaning he lost seven places, leaving him 21st at the chequered flag.

Unfortunately, such is the format of the championship that race two follows on from the first race, without anyone being able to work on the car. Starting 21st for race two didn't phase Freddy at all, and again in true Nordstrom style, as the lights diminished, he fired through the pack. Again his speed enabled him to muscle his way through the field, and by lap two he was lying 15th. Sadly, lap four saw him forced into retirement due to more mechanical issues.

Prior to the third race of the weekend, a new gearbox was installed to Freddy's SEAT, hoping for a more successful final outing. After overheating on the green flag lap, Freddy immediately came into the pits. He was obliged to sit in the pits for the first 10 laps, allowing the car to cool down, before being able to take part in the race.

Despite being a number of laps down, Freddy latched onto the leader and followed for four laps, indicating, yet again, the speed he had on his rivals.

A difficult weekend was not the way he wanted to start the season, however, pragmatic as ever, Freddy said: "It's been a really difficult weekend, I was really geared up for this round but it just hasn't gone to plan, at all. However, I can take some solace from this weekend, knowing that I have the speed to run at the sharp end of the pack.

"Providing we can be reliable at the next round in Jarama, the season should finally take off how we imagined it would. I'm looking forward to getting out there and hopefully racing at the front end," he added.

Freddy will be racing in Jarama on the weekend of 5/6th June, for round two of the championship.

Freddy completes successful test

Friday 9th April saw Freddy, the Advent Motorsport team and his new team mate, Boris Miljevic, set up camp at Brands Hatch for a pre-season test. At the wheel of his new distinctive blue SEAT Leon Supercopa machine, Freddy enjoyed a successful test, getting some beneficial track time before his first round in Valencia on the weekend of 16-18th April.

Commenting after his test, Freddy said: "The test went well, it was great to get back out on track after a long winter off, and it was a good experience behind the wheel of the new car.

I'm looking forward to this season kicking off and can't wait to get out on track in Valencia in a couple weeks time." He added.

Freddy is due to be out on track in the SEAT Leon Supercopa at round one Valencia on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th April.

Freddy Returns to Spanish SEAT Supercopa

With the start of the 2010 motor racing season just around the corner announcements are flooding through the doors for the coming year. Freddy has announced that he will return to Spain during 2010, with a drive in the Spanish SEAT Supercopa series.

After debuting in the series in 2009 Freddy feels he has unfinished business in the championship, and will again contest the Spanish series with Advent Motorsport, with hopes of a prosperous year ahead.

Commenting on the announcement, Freddy said: "I'm very excited about competing in the Spanish series again this year. It is a fantastic championship. 2009 was quite a tough year, with not knowing the circuits for instance, but now having knowledge of the various circuits will make things a bit easier during 2010.

"I'm hopeful of a strong season, with some interesting events coming our way through the year," he continued.

NORDSTROM FINISHES THE SEASON WITH A POINTS SCORING DRIVE

Freddy Nordstrom Proves 13 Isn’t Unlucky For Some In Final SEAT Supercopa Round

Freddy Nordstrom (Surrey, England & Sweden) finished the final race of the 2009 SEAT Supercopa Championship held in Barcelona, in a points scoring position after a tough debut season.

As usual the weekend consisted of 3 races, 2 sprint races that ran back to back on Saturday and a longer feature race on Sunday. It was part of a packed race weekend which included FIA Formula 2, European Formula 3, International GT and Mini Challenge.

The toughest qualifying session of the season saw the 37 car SEAT Supercopa class produce the closest times of the year. In fact less than a second covered places 6 to 26 on the grid! Freddy was in the thick of the action in 20th on the grid.

In the first of the weekend’s races Freddy was hit hard, causing severe damage to the car’s diffuser and rear floor scrapping on the ground. Somehow he battled on to finish a very credible 17th. With no repairs allowed before the immediate start of race 2, Freddy continued to battle with his car showing the scars of race one! Again he put a strong race given the circumstances to finish 19th.

The Advent Motorsport team worked hard before the third race of the weekend to repair the car. In the feature race Freddy was in storming mood to work his way up to 13th, which proved lucky as it scored Freddy his first points of the season.

“It has been a tough season” said Freddy afterwards. “The series and all the circuits were new to me. The grids are always full and many of the competitors have been in the series for several years, plus a number of Eurocup drivers visit selected rounds. It has been a tough learning curve, there’s been more than a few bumps and scrapes, but I’m already looking forward to next year and hopefully some more Eurocup action. My race in the Eurocup at Brands Hatch this year, in which I finished both races in the top six, has been a real highlight”.
